Coffee Cake

cake mixture: 1.5 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup milk

topping: 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped nuts
4 tablespoons melted butter

Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening, as for biscuits. Add eggs and milk. mix until well blended. Spread into greased pan. Mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, butter, and nuts. Spread over cake mixture. With a knife, swirl topping into mixture. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
